Encon City - Energy Conservation in Domestic Homes

British Gas’s ongoing commitment to energy conservation has resulted in the development of a highly interactive, virtual reality computer based program (Encon City), this game demonstrates energy conservation initiatives and measures within domestic properties.

The programme begins with a short tutorial which gives a brief guide on how energy is used in the home, this is followed by ways of conserving energy in your home. Playing the game will provide you with a better understanding of where and how to improve a properties energy usage.

The programme contains three highly interactive scenarios. Each scenario involves carrying out an energy evaluation of a property. The scenarios are based around the identification and subsequent improvement of energy wasteful items, making the property more energy efficient, saving money on the properties annual energy bill and ultimately impacting on the environment.

The scenarios contain and demonstrate the many different types of energy improvements which can be made and are based on factors such as:
  • The occupants life style
  • The cost to improve specific areas and items: No cost, low, medium and high cost
  • The amount of energy the changes will save over a 12 month period
  • The financial saving to the occupants
  • The pay back period for the occupants
  • The positive impact energy efficiency will have on the environment
